FAQs for Columbus V-900 (Last updated on 16th Nov 2008)

Q1) When I clicked on TimeAlbumXXXXXXX.jar file to launch the Time Album application, nothing opens up, or my compression software (such as WinZip or WinRaR) opens up instead.
A1) Please un-install WinZip / WinRaR or any other compression application first. Then, install Java Virtual Machine (from the disk). Finally browse to the TimeAlbumXXXX.jar file in the CD ROM Drive and double click on it to launch it. If it works, then you may re-install your compression software and when prompted to associate the .JAR file extension, say no or uncheck the file association. If you are running Windows XP / Vista and have WinZip or WinRAR already associated with "JAR" File extension, you could first install the Java Virtual Machine and then manually launch the Time Album application from the DOS Prompt using the following command:
  1. Start > Run > type in "cmd" (without quotes) and press enter.
  2. Then, type the following statement. You may need to change the drive letter from "d:\" to the drive letter of your CD ROM drive.

    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin>java -jar "d:\Utility\Time Album\TimeAlbum V1.4.1_08-10-09.jar"

Q2) Where are the geo-tagged photos located?
A2) They are located under a folder called "GPSed" where the KML or KMZ file is exported.

Q3) When I click on "Play Now" hyperlink on the Voice Tag, nothing comes out.
A3) Due to recent changes on the Google Earth beta versions, Google Earth temporary broken the compatibility of this voice tag feature. Please uninstall Google Earth and re-install the version that is located on the disc.

Q4) Mac OSX: How do I format the memory card to FAT format according to the manual?
A4) Our memory card is already pre-formated and there is no need to re-format it. It can be used right out of the box. If you want to re-format it, you may use the build-in application in your Mac call Disk Utility.

You could launch the Disk Utility from Applications folder of your Mac OS / OSX. It formats any drive (external / internal) into Windows FAT format.

Q5) TimeAlbum only exported the CVS logged file to KML / KMZ. How do I get raw NMEA or GPX version of the logged file?
A5) Please try BT747 instead. We`ve just tested it to work well with some CVS files from Columbus V-900:
