I have been using this unit for 3 weeks and love it! It is very slim and light. Before this, I used the Globalsat BT-338 until it died. I used G66 on my T-Mobile Wing with Google Maps.... By Kenny on 6/5/2008 9:20:54 PM

Q1: What is the difference between route planning and navigation?

A1: Route planning is a free feature (your network provider may charge for data transfer, therefore it is recommended that you use a Wi-Fi connection (such as hotspots) or a mobile internet flat rate; you can also avoid downloading data and costs related to data transfer by turning off the network connections in the network settings. It calculates and displays a route between two locations. A route simulation (with voice commands) is also possible (without paying additional license fees).
Navigation is an extra service, which is available for purchase. Navigation means that the route is calculated from your current GPS position to a chosen destination (for mobile devices without an internal GPS receiver, an external GPS receiver may be necessary; check your mobile device`s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver). The navigation is voice-guided, meaning it tells you how to get to the desired destination step by step (for example, "in 300 meters turn left?"). Navigation also automatically re-calculates the route if you take a wrong turn.


Q2: Is smart2go free?

A2: Yes, the mapping and routing is free. The mobile network provider might charge for data transfer. It is recommended that you use a Wi-Fi connection (such as hotspots) or a UMTS flat rate.

If you like the navigation feature in smart2go, you can of course continue using it! Navigation for different countries and regions is available for purchase right from smart2go.

There are more extra services such as guides, which are also available for purchase.


Q3: Which features in smart2go are free?

A3:
  • View, browse, and zoom the world map and the street level maps (more than 150 countries)
  • View your current location on the map and what is around you (POI`s)
  • Save and send your own favourite locations as Landmarks and view them on the map
  • Find address, POI (more than 15 million POI`s), or your own Landmark
  • Plan a route from A to B and simulate it (i.e. routing)
  • Use the navigation function for three days without paying a license fee! (not on Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices, for example, Nokia N70; for mobile devices without internal GPS receiver, an external GPS receiver might be necessary; check your mobile device`s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver)



Q4: How often is the map data in smart2go updated?

A4: The map data will be updated twice a year. You can check for map updates in the smart2go application.


Q5: How can I activate the 7-day navigation trial license?

A5: To activate the 3-day navigation trial license in your mobile device, start the smart2go application and go to Options > Extra Services > Add navigation. Accept the Terms and Conditions and then press Purchase (note that you actually do not purchase anything, but activate a pre-bundled license; you are not charged for using the 3-day navigation trial license, but data transfer costs may arise for the download of map data). Your mobile device will then try to connect to the license server to activate the navigation license. Choose an access point (you can use mobile internet or Wi-Fi). Finally, you will receive a confirmation notice telling you about the successful activation of your 3-day navigation trial valid on all supported navigable maps. Note that the 3-day navigation trial is only available for smart2go 1.0 on Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition mobile devices!If you like the navigation feature in smart2go, you can of course continue using it! Navigation for different countries and regions is available for purchase. To purchase a navigation upgrade for a certain region, in the main screen of smart2go, go to Options > Extra Services > Add Navigation > Select region/country and select a license period (7-day, 1-month, 1-year, 3-year license period). Choose your payment method and press OK (using smart2go on a Windows Mobile 5 device, please select Extras > Navigation > Buy; choose the region for which you want to purchase the navigation upgrade, accept the terms and conditions, choose the license period and then your payment method). A secure data connection (via Wi-Fi or mobile internet) will be established to connect to the license server (data transfer costs may arise).In case you want to update the firmware software of your Nokia mobile device (for example, via Nokia Software Updater), you can regain your navigation license in the smart2go application for the remaining time period of your navigation license (go to Options > Extra services > Add navigation). Choose the region for which you purchased the navigation license and go to Options > Update.Using smart2go on a Windows Mobile 5 device, you can restore your navigation license via Extras > Navigation > Buy > choose region > continue > Menu > update license.Please allow the connection to the license server to check the purchase & license options by selecting Yes and by then selecting the proper Internet access point (if asked).
